The city Guwahati, situated on the banks of the river Brahmaputra and at an altitude of 55 meters above sea level, experiences a subtropical humid climate. The weather here and in whole Assam is not extreme, and the average temperature ranges between 19 Celsius and 28 Celsius during September. Humidity is inherent in Assam's climate, and it is often around 60-70 percent during September.

The summer season in Assam lasts from the month of March to mid June. During this season, the weather remains hot and the average summer temperature ranges between 25 Celsius 33 Celsius. The monsoon which follows the summer season bring is much respite from the summer heat. Monsoon season in Assam lasts from June to early September. The city receives an annual rainfall of around 1600 mm. The monsoon season is followed by the autumn season starting around mid-September and continuing till early-November. This is a comfortable time in the city as the climate is warm and moderate, and the skies are clear with little rainfall which reduces the humidity. Assam experiences the winter season during the months of November to February and the average temperature during this time ranges between 10 Celsius - 20 Celsius. The days are sunny and the mornings are misty. The evenings and the night often get enjoyably chilly, and the coolest month is usually January.

The best time to visit Guwahati is between the months of September and March. During this time the temperatures are not too high and rainfall is scanty, making it ideal for visitors to explore the place.
